Research shows that more than 1 million children in the UK do not have their own bed (Barnados 2024).
Child poverty in Peterborough is a significant issue, with data showing approximately 32% of children in our city living in poverty, notably higher than the 21% national average (children in low income families: local area statistics 2014–2024, DWP, FYE 2024).
Many of these children are sleeping on the floor, on piles of clothes or on old, ripped and dirty mattresses.
These are the families we see everyday at Care Zone. Last year we had referrals for 845 households.
We want to make a difference and ensure this is not the case in our city.
It is extremely hard to get enough donations of beds in good condition so Care Zone can currently only offer 1 bed per family due to low donations. This is heartbreaking for our clients and our team.
Help ensure everyone in need will get a bed to sleep on.
£100 will provide a bed and mattress. We estimate that it will take £80,000 to provide beds for a year to all our clients, particularly children and we are asking local business, schools and community groups to join together to be part of the GOODNIGHT SLEEPTIGHT initiative that will change lives.
We would love you to join us by donating or hosting some fundraisers. Many participants doing a bit will mean a lot overall and truly make a difference!

We are absolutely delighted to once again support CareZone through our fundraising efforts, particularly the incredible Goodnight SleepTight campaign. This marks the second consecutive year that our team has proudly taken part in the Cambridge Half Marathon, raising funds that continue to make a real and lasting impact within our local community. Knowing that our fundraising has helped secure 40 beds for people in need across the city of Peterborough is truly amazing. We are incredibly proud to play a small part in supporting such vital work and helping provide comfort, dignity, and safety to those who need it most. Thanks to Julie and the team for hosting us again and showing us behind the scenes of the well-oiled machine in the warehouse.
We were recently visited by Peterborough Telegraph who reported on our Goodnight Sleeptight campaign to help raise awareness.
